After a couple of days to cool off from Japan and Bali, we headed straight back out on the road again. Our 1st stop was Portland, OR. We got to rock out at their weekly Hip Hop night every Thursday, The Fix, and it was a slammin party! DJ Kez got the party started, spinning the dopest jams, and then our good friend Ragen Fykes got up and sang with us for a song and felt real good!
After getting some greasy late night eats, we decided to just drive through the night to Spokane, since we were still pretty jet-lagged and up.. well, some of us. We had a sweet intimate nite with all the Spokane headz and then went back to the hotel to get our 1st full night of horizontal sleep.
Tonight is Seattle with Ohmega Watts! We’ll see you there!
Well, the CD is out in the world… Crown City Rockers’ “The Day After Forever” took forever and a day to make. The new live set took countless hours of rehearsal, but our CD release party was TRULY a monumentous expierience for us. It is life affirming to work so hard and to have it pay off with a party like October 2nd at the Independent in SF.
The night started with Spaceheater’s Blast Furnace (featuring former Mission: drummer P-DuBBL Chops AKA Pat Korte). Their set was a tasteful blend of propulsive funk & latin rhythms, and progressive, intricate arrangements. They were the perfect welcome mat for the evening. Congrats to them on the release of their new self-titled album on Rope-a-Dope records.

Between ALL the sets we had… DJ D-Sharp spinning rare groove funk & classics. DJ D-Sharp = party. Getting him on the night was a no-brainer unanimous decision. Thanks homie.

Next UP, the world-famous Breakestra… (L.A.’s all-live rare-groove mix-tape, and one of the best funk bands out there). They of course tore the place down in celebration of their new album “Dusk til’ Dawn” (in remembrance of the homie DJ Dusk)… We feel extremely lucky to have shared the night with them. Thank you. they will be playing the El Rey in L.A. Oct. 6th.

The night was masterfully hosted by (the one and only) Lyrics Born. his party-rocking skills are un-beatable. He goosed up the crowd all night, and right before our set, he brought the audience to a frenzy performing a collection of his classics.

…and then…
BLAM!!!
Thanks to everyone who came out and supported. Big high five to the Jazz Mafia Horns who sat in with us on 4 songs (ya’ll ripped it) (trombone-Adam Theis, trumpet-Mike Olmos, and sax-Spaceheater’s Evan Francis)… and special thanks to everyone who helped make our album. It was ALL of our party, and it was great to have you all there to share the night.
